SingPost celebrates the wonder of post,
on the first-ever World Post Day celebration in Singapore.
(Singapore, wownewsasia.com, 8 Oct 2010) SingPost is celebrating the World Post Day on 9th October 2010 by mailing out a special edition Direct Mail to their corporate customers. This celebration is held as a part of the worldwide celebrations to mark the 136th anniversary of the founding of Universal Postal Union.

With theme of “Celebrate The Wonder Of Post”, 2 postcards are enclosed in the globe-shape DM which SingPost would like to encourage their corporate customers to post out to their business associates and friends. To make it more meaningful and special, SingPost will be donating $1 to their adopted charity for each of these postcards sent out. With a small step of posting, it helps to bring people together as well as helping the less fortunate on this special day.

SingPost, the designated Public Postal Licensee for Singapore, will continue making sure everyone receives their mails on time and deliver their best service to the community of Singapore.

How Did It All Begin?
World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969.

The purpose of World Post Day is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and businesses’ everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries. The celebration encourages member countries to undertake programme activities aimed at generating a broader awareness of their Post’s role and activities among the public and media on a national scale.

Every year, more than 150 countries celebrate World Post Day in a variety of ways. In certain countries, World Post Day is observed as a working holiday. Many Posts use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services. Some Posts also use World Post Day to reward their employees for good service.
