(Singapore,
wownewsasia.com 7 Aug 2009) Over 1400 enthusiastic students, teachers and guests attended the ‘MILO® for Charity’ event at the East Coast Park for Singapore’s 44th birthday celebration and marked Singapore’s special day with the setting of 2 national records.
The energetic morning began with a number of performances by students followed by a series of award presentations. The arrival of Guest of Honor, Mrs Doris Tan-Por, Assistant Principal Private Secretary to the President prompted a great wave of applause from the cheering crowd.
The first record ‘Singapore's Largest Montage Made of Drink Cartons’ was created when a replica of Singapore island with the theme of National Day 2009 – ‘Come Together’ was formed using 5000 cartons of 125ml MILO® packs by the artistic hands of students. 1383 students enjoyed their MILO® breakfast in unison, setting the national record of the largest number of people having MILO® breakfast at the same time. Before launching into their breakfast mission, the Temasek Secondary School students took time to reflect and salute the nation with health and wealth on her big day with a classic toast. The President of the Singapore Book of Records, Mr Ong Eng Huat was present to witness the setting of these records.
To cap the day on a high note, MILO®, and Temasek Secondary School presented a cheque to Mrs Tan-Por for the $44,000 they have raised for this year’s ‘President’s Challenge 2009’. “The school has demonstrated the true spirit of the youth of the nation – tremendous dedication and commitment. MILO® has always championed the sports scene but we would also like to use the opportunity like today’s event to highlight the importance of having breakfast and to provide a fuss-free breakfast alternative to students, in light of reports claiming that many students are sadly skipping their breakfast nowadays.” said Marketing Manager of Nestlé Singapore. “We’re excited at the setting of 2 new national records today thanks to all the students and teachers at Temasek Secondary School!” he added.
The meaningful day ended with the singing of the national anthem. Stay tuned for more updates from
